Today my early day Creative Explorers starts! Just before a class starts I get excited and very focused. I really want these kid artists to get inspired and have a good time. I've met some of the kids already and this group has a lot of energy. I'm feeling optomistic! The studio is ready and ever improving (see new doors below!), art supplies are stocked and my mind is packed with ideas and projects to share. I've decided to start with some hand building in clay and starting our plaster gauze masks. Why not just jump right into it? In the weeks ahead we'll throw pots on the wheel and make our own screens for printmaking. And what really excites me are the ideas that the kid artists bring to the studio!
As we go along the kid artists will let me know what attracts and inspires them. They'll teach me about how they like to create, how they see the world. And I'll get inspired by them as well in my lesson plans. I will bring in materials and tools to fuel us on our creative adventures. Ok Creative Explorers, let's make some cool stuff! 2 spots have opened up in the Creative Explorers class at 1:15 pm on Wednesdays. It is an on going class so kid artists can join anytime there are openings!
There are some other cool things going on over here at the studio~
Like next week the Toddler/Preschooler Art Play Group starts On Friday at 10:30 am. We meet and go on creative sensorial adventures for 8 weeks. We play and eat snacks. Parents get a chance to talk with other parents in a calm supportive atmosphere. I love this Art Group because at this age little ones are less concerned with an end result. They give us a chance to join in the wonder and experimentation of the moment! It is a great reminder for me and many of us to slow down and enjoy a little bit! There are spots still in this group too!
And the Fall Gift Workshop Series starts with the first workshop Small Paintingswith me, Jenna, on October 4th from 10-2. This is a fun way to paint with out feeling intimidated by a big surface!
We have so many great Workshops offered this fall with me and Amber Avalos and Yan Ingamells! Check them all out here!
A big goal of Big Spirit Studio is to help make art and creative making more accessible. To keep my prices low and hopefully offer some sort of financial aid in the near future, I've begun applying for grants and fiscal sponsorship. It's new and strange feeling, but I'll figure it out as I go. I am super blessed to have the support and experience of my new and dear friend Rivkah helping me not only to navigate the applications and deadlines but also to give me feed back and encouragement. Thank you Rivkah! I am so grateful for your friendship.
So please send me Yes! energy to help bring in some good grant money! The world is a strange hard place sometimes and kids are being asked to grow up in it with fewer opportunities to creatively express themselves. Making art can be such a positive life tool and I want that resource to be there in our communities!
Oh! And I am looking for homeschooling families who are part of a charter to request Big Spirit Studio as a vendor. As a vendor for home school families more people will have access to art making! The Monday Homeschool Creative Explorers class has been such a source of inspiration for me. And how Big Spirit Studio got it's start! Please contact me if you want to help me become a vendor!
Thank you for your continued support as this little business gets started. My community makes my life rich and beautiful! Do something creative for yourself! You deserve it! Gratitude, jenna
